![]() In his time with War Child, Rob has overseen a huge growth both in our income and in the number of children and families we help by tens of thousands. That might seem like a lot of money but for someone in charge of an international organisation with hundreds of staff - many working in very dangerous places - it's normal. Our CEO, Rob Williams, was paid a salary of £104,504 in 2020. Of every £1 raised, 89p was spent on charitable activities and the rest, 11p, was spent on admin costs. Last year we raised £16,685,000 from a variety of sources. Sometimes that means investing in future income or monitoring and evaluating our projects to measure their impact. Our focus is, and will always be, delivering the best possible support to children affected by war. ![]() Our aim is not, and should not be, to spend as little of our money as possible on running costs. For example, a charity that only spends 1% on admin and 99% directly on its mission won't have systems in place to know how many people it is supporting, what impact it is making on their lives, or how these projects can be further improved. It is implied that they are "bad" and that a "good" charity spends as little money as possible on its running costs.īut focusing solely on admin costs misses the point. The rest (11%) went on fundraising efforts, systems and admin - without that, helping the 171,992 people we did in 2020 would be impossible.Įvery year, our accounts are audited to make sure we’re effectively using the funds donated by you, our supporters.Īdministration costs are often the focus of attention. Nearly all of that (89%) went on helping children whose lives have been torn apart by war. That could be anything from setting up a child-friendly space in a refugee camp, to education classes for children who have fled a war zone, to enabling young people to speak up for their rights, and much more. 89% of the money we spend goes towards protecting, educating and standing up for the rights of children living through war. If an add-on exists for SM 1.x or Netscape/Mozilla and it's MPL'd, I will integrate it into RetroZilla.Īn add-on manager is one of my plans, if I can find an existing add-on for Mozilla/NS and it's MPL'd (same as above) I can integrate it into RetroZilla. I may have to write a new system entirely, as SeaMonkey's frontend went under a total rewrite between 1.1.19 and 2.0. The tab sessions feature I will have to look in to. Regarding the language packs, I have no idea how long they will continue to function, I am working on a lot of UI enhancements for 2.0. (I may add a custom build that uses the old Suite folder, if people want it) ![]() By adding my own folder instead of using the Mozilla one, RZ would be incompatible with old Mozilla Suite profiles that people have been using for years, but taking my long term goals into consideration, RZ may not be compatible with the old Suite for long. It's great that you like the separate AppData folder, that was a decision that I had a hard time making and thought would be unpopular. Installing the German language pack worked also great.īut it is kinda weird to use a browser again that does not save opened tabs/sessions for the next use. versions of SeaMonkey you'd have to very careful that your regular profile is not changed that much that is 'unusable' afterwards. ![]() It's the popular SeaMonkey internet suite (browser, email, newsgroups, chat) bundled with a Launcher as a portable app, so you can take your whole internet experience with you. I especially like the idea that the profile is now located within the actual app folder. A new version of SeaMonkey, Portable Edition has been released. ![]() While not one of the top 3 Picasa alternatives in this list, it’s hard to argue with so much image-searching power at your fingertips for free. Photo editing in Google Photos is fairly limited, but you can quickly apply filters and tweak elements such as brightness and contrast, all of which are reversible, even if you come back to the photo much later. This allows you to perform a search for an object contained within the actual image itself, making keywording and tagging individual photos a chore of the past. Having all of your images stored in Google’s cloud platform means that Google Photos can take advantage of sophisticated search capabilities, not simply using keywords and other data stored in your images, but also Google’s intelligence to identify what’s in your photos. Google Photos allows you to store and synchronise your images automatically - for free if you choose to make a small compromise on the resolution, although this is due to change in the summer of 2021. Rather than being installed on your computer, Google Photos is a web-based application that works a little differently. With the retirement of Picasa, many hoped that Google Photos would prove to be a good alternative, and it certainly comes close. ![]() See our in-depth Lightroom Classic review here, or click the button above to start a free trial. ![]() It’s easy to browse a vast catalogue of images with relative ease, making Lightroom one of the best Google Picasa alternatives if you have the budget for it. Lightroom’s file management features are powerful, offering keywords, sophisticated filtering and sorting. There’s a standalone version (“Classic”) for Windows and MacOS machines, and there’s a “CC” version that also works on mobile devices, allowing you to synchronise your work while keeping your archive in the cloud. Presets allow you to perform rapid edits and synchronise changes across any number of images. It might not (yet) contain the AI features of something like Luminar 4, but Adobe Lightroom has an extensive array of tools for processing images.īasic changes can be applied quickly and easily, and you can then choose to create more complex edits using local adjustments and color grading tools. However, it’s definitely one of the best choices when it comes to editing your photos, so in that sense, it’s definitely a top Picasa alternative. In addition, Luminar can swap out a sky, make an unwanted part of an image disappear, smooth the skin and enhance the eyes on a portrait - all within just a few clicks.īecause of the emphasis on editing, Luminar is not well suited to managing a large number of files and doesn’t support features such as facial identification, keywords, or collections. Luminar takes advantage of AI machine learning to offer automatic edits to your photographs, making suggestions based on millions of existing photographs. While you can get very technical in your edits using things like masking and layers, Luminar 4 is best-known for its use of AI. Luminar is geared towards editing individual photographs and puts a lot of power in your hands. Luminar Neo is one of the most powerful, fully-featured pieces of editing software available on the market in 2023, offering one-click editing solutions while also allowing you to dig deep into an image to create a distinctive look. ![]() ![]() You don’t get to see other teams play so you’re going to be one of the first ones out there. But I think Gregg Berhalter, looking at this group, he’s going to see a path out of it, but the timing and the scheduling does play a big part in that.Īnd I think also, being one of the teams that play on the opening day will also have some impact. Obviously, it worked out well for the US when that happened in 2014 because they only needed one point out of the next two games so to get to the knockout out stages. Kyle: You like to start off with a win, just get three points under your belt. But I think it’s fair to say that there is a path out of the group, which is always going to be the first step for Gregg Berhalter when it comes to the World Cup. There’s not going to be an easy group in the World Cup. So they’re going to be coming in really playing with something to play for not just being at World Cup so it’s not an easy group. So obviously, the host nation’s going to have a lot of support and then Ukraine, obviously right now has all the support in the world. You never want to play a team that’s got all the support because there’s going to be riding that high. Kyle: I thought FOX actually made some good points. ![]() But whoever makes it out of those three teams will play the United States in that first game. But at the end of the day, I think there’s going to be a lot of people that would be hoping that Ukraine makes it from a humanitarian point of view. Ukraine, who knows if they’ll even get to play the match given the current situation in Ukraine, I hope that they do. Maybe they’ll try to do a friendly against a European team to see if they can play against a similar playing style?īut any of those three teams could easily qualify. That’s going to hamper their scouting a little bit. So the US has to wait until late June to find out which team they’re playing first. It’ll be USA against either Wales or Scotland or Ukraine. So that’s a little bit of a disadvantage though for the United States because the very first game that’s the United States plays in this World Cup will be Monday, November 21st. Every single team that has qualified for this World Cup and is about to qualify for this World Cup is a good team, otherwise, they wouldn’t be there. He says, “You could make the case that if Wales goes through, this would be your ‘group of death.'”Įngland’s a good team, Iran’s a good team, United States is a good team and then whether it’s Scotland, Ukraine, or Wales, they’re all good teams. And funnily enough, right after the draw was made, it goes back to FOX Sports in the studio and the first thing that Rob Stone says, the presenter of FOX’s World Cup coverage, the go-to guy, the Rebecca Lowe of FOX Sports. However, in this case, I think this is the first World Cup in a long time where there is no ‘group of death’. And that’s usually the first talking point where everyone zeros in on whatever group it is and says, ‘my gosh, Portugal and Germany and United States and those types of groups.’ And that’s the thing, there’s almost always a ‘group of death’. But whenever there was someone speaking Arabic or French, you could hear the translator translating what they were saying.Ĭhris: I think you’re right, Kyle, when you mentioned most of the groups are pretty balanced. Telemundo has the rights to the World Cup also. In comparison, you have Telemundo, the Spanish language broadcaster. So it’d be an awkward cutaway back to the Los Angeles studio for FOX Sports. So here’s an opportunity to go ahead and talk about the country, talk about speaking Arabic, and about different things.Īnd that was the thing though when watching it on FOX Sports, whenever there was someone speaking a foreign language, FOX didn’t have anyone translating whatever they were saying into English. They just want to find out, which teams are in which groups? But obviously, FIFA knows and Qatar knows that they have the world’s attention. I think everyone watching it just wants to watch the draw. Added to that was some really cheesy animation. Anyone who watched the pre-draw, and then watched the opening 45 minutes… it really felt like an infomercial for Qatar, how great the country is and how great it is for them to be hosting it. These walls are purchased from various NPCs. You can also view the data on another page. This table requires JavaScript to be enabled and site tooltips to be turned on to be displayed. These walls are made by the player using various crafting materials. Similarly, many (or all, on ) naturally-generated walls have safe counterparts which are obtainable through crafting or purchase from NPCs. With these walls (both of which are harvestable), the player must break the unsafe walls and replace them in order for them to count as safe walls. They also have a quirk in that they must be removed by starting from their edge (i.e., adjacent space with no wall), which for explosives means that an edge must exist somewhere within the radius of the explosion.ĭistinguishing safe walls from unsafe walls can be tricky because many walls, such as Obsidian Brick Walls or Dungeon Brick Walls, exist in both safe and unsafe forms. Unsafe walls will not stop enemies from spawning, and cannot be utilized for houses. Unsafe walls are a type of wall that appears during world generation, and can generally not be utilized by the player when broken, they will either drop their safe equivalent or nothing at all.Safe walls are usually obtained from crafting, or purchased from NPCs, but can also be found naturally in certain structures, such as Shrines and Pyramids. Safe walls prevent enemies from spawning (but do not do anything to prevent their passage), and a mostly unbroken background of safe walls is necessary for a structure to qualify as a NPC house, or to use a Bed to change a player's spawn point. ![]() ![]() Certain mechanics of walls is dependent on which of the following categories they fall under: Many wall types exist as items that the player can place in their inventory and then re-place in any area which does not already have walls. Natural walls are generated at world creation, being abundant in certain biomes like the Underground Jungle, and are of the main components a Terraria world consists of alongside blocks and liquids. Walls are hidden behind everything else, such as blocks. Unlike Virtual PC 2007 which will work regardless of whether you have hardware virtualization, Virtual PC will work ONLY WHEN your computer supports hardware virtualization. If you are running Windows 7, you can look into Virtual PC (sometimes seen as Virtual PC 7) (which includes XP Mode). If you are a developer running XP -or- are running Win 7 on hardware that does not support hardware virtualization, Virtual PC 2007 is very likely what you want. You want to set up a machine configuration and reuse it. You can run Windows 7 within a Windows XP host. You may want to run Windows 7 to make sure your apps run fine on it – but you also don’t want to give up XP quite yet. You may want to try out some testing with 4 GB or RAM, then maybe with 1/2 GB or RAM – so you know what to expect. A virtual machine environment makes it easy to manage these without risking your real machine. You don’t want to install Pre-Release software (like a CTP – Community Technology Preview, which means “very rough”) or beta software directly on your development machine. ![]() There are several reasons to use a Virtual PC-managed virtual machine for development: This post does not cover use of (related) virtualization techniques which are very popular today on the server-side. Note this post deals with concerns for Developers. In this post I concentrate on creating a Virtual PC image for Windows 7, but the steps for the other operating systems are similar. This post describes how to install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, followed by a detailed walk-through of how to create a virtual machine image of a fresh Windows 7 installation using Virtual PC 2007. It was independently described as Ornithorhynchus paradoxus by Johann Blumenbach in 1800 (from a specimen given to him by Sir Joseph Banks) and following the rules of priority of nomenclature, it was later officially recognised as Ornithorhynchus anatinus. Shaw initially assigned the species the Linnaean name Platypus anatinus when he described it, but the genus term was quickly discovered to already be in use as the name of the wood-boring ambrosia beetle genus Platypus. The common name "platypus" literally means 'flat-foot', deriving from the Greek word platúpous ( πλατύπους), from platús ( πλατύς 'broad, wide, flat') and poús ( πούς 'foot'). Shaw even took a pair of scissors to the dried skin to check for stitches. It was thought that somebody had sewn a duck's beak onto the body of a beaver-like animal. George Shaw, who produced the first description of the animal in the Naturalist's Miscellany in 1799, stated it was impossible not to entertain doubts as to its genuine nature, and Robert Knox believed it might have been produced by some Asian taxidermist. British scientists' initial hunch was that the attributes were a hoax. When the platypus was first encountered by Europeans in 1798, a pelt and sketch were sent back to Great Britain by Captain John Hunter, the second Governor of New South Wales. See also: Plural form of words ending in -us Frederick Nodder's illustration from the first scientific description in 1799 of " Platypus anatinus" It is classified as a near-threatened species by the IUCN, but a November 2020 report has recommended that it be upgraded to threatened species under the federal EPBC Act, due to habitat destruction and declining numbers in all states. Its population is not under severe threat, although captive-breeding programs have had slight success, and it is vulnerable to pollution. The platypus was hunted for its fur, but it has been a legally protected species in all states where it occurs since 1912. It has appeared as a national mascot, features on the reverse of the Australian twenty-cent coin, and is an emblem of the state of New South Wales. It is culturally significant to several Aboriginal peoples, who also used to hunt it for food. The unique features of the platypus make it important in the study of evolutionary biology, and a recognisable and iconic symbol of Australia. In 1799, the first scientists to examine a preserved platypus body judged it a fake made of several animals sewn together. The unusual appearance of this egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal at first baffled European naturalists. It is one of the few species of venomous mammals, as the male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers an extremely painful venom. Like other monotremes, the platypus senses prey in cloudy water through electrolocation. ![]() Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. The platypus is the sole living representative or monotypic taxon of its family Ornithorhynchidae and genus Ornithorhynchus, though a number of related species appear in the fossil record. The platypus ( Ornithorhynchus anatinus), sometimes referred to as the duck-billed platypus, is a semiaquatic, egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania.
